“So what you’re telling me is that we need another car?” Dad was talking with mom the other morning as we all were getting ready for school. “When is the last time you tried to get our minivan up the drive in the winter Gary..?” “It’s downright dangerous.” “So yes, we need to find another eight seat vehicle with four wheel drive so I can get around with our six kids safely.”
Before beginning to talk Gary into a new car Susan spoke with other mothers like her online. She took the time to understand that the best new car for her was not going to be another eight seat minivan, but an older model Chevrolet Suburban with four wheel drive.
The top three eight seat minivans, the ones she would have to choose from, include the Honda Odyssey, the Nissan Quest, and the Toyota Sienna, but none offer four wheel drive.
“I found something that I like and we can basically keep the same payments as the van.” “If we decide that is the best thing to do you can look at what I found online or we can go into town to check out the dealers.” “When I can’t get up the hill to get everyone home and the groceries inside before the ice cream melts, then we need another car that will fit all of our children and be safe when winter hits.”
After thinking only briefly Gary realized that his wife was right. He had noticed the wheel prints of the van seemed to be a bit wavy on the way up the driveway to the house. If she hadn’t said anything he might not have made the realization that they needed a new car to get the kids around in. When the light went off for Gary, he let Susan know he approved of her decision. “You’re right Sue, I didn’t think of it myself, but you’re right.” “We’ll go shopping for your new car as soon as we finish dinner.” “And we’ll keep shopping until you have what makes you happy.”
